SALEM – The Oregon Arts Commission and Ford Family Foundation have awarded 38 artists with career opportunity grants. The funds enable artists to take advantage of opportunities that could enhance their artistic careers. While most of the artists are from the west side of the state, at least three are from Eastern Oregon.
Zach Banks of Pendleton receives $2,000 to attend the Monteux School and Music Festival from June 18 to July 31. It’s described as an intensive training program for conductors and orchestral musicians. Banks is the conductor of the Oregon East Symphony Youth Orchestra and is the music director and conductor for the Grand Ronde Symphony Orchestra.
Judith Baumann of Pendleton receives $2,000 to support an exhibit of her works as well as those of three other artists from Idaho, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Her exhibit is already a reality, on display this month at the Pendleton Center for the Arts.
Susan Murrell of La Grande receives $3,382 to support her solo exhibit called SIFT/SHIFT. It is on display this summer through fall at the Whatcom Museum in Bellingham, Washington.
