Reminder, Do Not Challenge Road Raging Drivers

EASTERN OREGON – Summertime means plenty of travel, travel can mean extra traffic, extra traffic can mean roadway congestion, and roadway congestion can mean impatient drivers. Regardless of the specific cause, many Oregonians may find themselves dealing with aggressive or road raging drivers during summer travel.
Section 7 of the Oregon Driving Manual lists road rage behaviors as “driving in an illegal, unsafe, or threatening manner, shouting and rude gestures.” The threat caused by a road rage driver will vary on a case-by-case basis, but the way in which other drivers should deal with them remains the same. The Oregon Department of Transportation recommends not challenging or antagonizing an aggressive driver by trying to either go faster than them or outmaneuver them. Instead, drivers should stay out of their way and, if necessary, report them to law enforcement.
