SALEM – Oregon’s Republican and Independent senators who walked off their jobs are walking back on on June 25th. Senate Republican Leader Tim Knopp of Bend issued the following statement:
“Democrat leadership including President (Rob) Wagner are threatening to shut down the government if they don’t get their way,” he wrote. “That is no way to govern. We guarantee that we will be back before constitutional sine die to address the issues most important to Oregonians – homelessness, affordable housing, public safety, cost of living, job creation, and fully funded education. We are not interested in facilitating an agenda that is unlawful, uncompromising, and unconstitutional. This has not changed.”
Knopp said that Republicans have faced intimidation and retaliation from both Wagner and those who he calls “the special interest groups that installed him as president.” He said that Republicans have called for an independent investigation of the broad potential wrongdoings of the Democrats be conducted.
This article was corrected to reflect the senators will return on June 25, not May 25. My Columbia Basin regrets the error.
