PENDLETON – The Pendleton Children’s Center is hoping to rescue parents who were impacted by the announced closure of Room to Bloom Daycare. The center is operating at capacity but told the Pendleton City Council Tuesday that it could accommodate a little over 30 additional children if the city would award it a $50,000 grant.

“This would allow parents to be able to continue to work in our community,” City Manager Robb Corbett said of the proposed grant. “Many of them work for the city of Pendleton.”

The Children’s Center has plans to expand over time but stated it could respond to the emergency caused by the closure with proper funding.

Mayor John Turner and the council are holding a work session Monday at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers to discuss the grant and determine how it would be funded if the concept is approved. The public is welcome to attend work sessions. At this time, no instructions have yet been posted about accessing it via Zoom.
