Ribbon cutting is today for Clover Island project

KENNEWICK – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will celebrate the completion of the Clover Island Improvement Project today (Friday) at 2:30 p.m. Festivities will be held at 101 Clover Island Drive and include a ribbon cutting and public reception near the lighthouse.
The project restored a half-mile of shoreline and nearly an acre of shallow water habitat to benefit upper Columbia River spring Chinook salmon, upper and mid-Columbia River steelhead and bull trout; and provide benefits to other birds, wildlife, and aquatic species at Clover Island.
In addition, the Clover Island Riverwalk was extended; scenic viewpoints, benches and educational panels were added; and four upland parcels have been readied for development.
The Port of Kennewick, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, city of Kennewick, Benton County, and the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office partnered with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on this project.
