Wastewater Progress, Library Updates and More from North Powder

NORTH POWDER – (Information from the City of North Powder Newsletter) With spring, and finally some sunshine, firmly in the air, the city of North Powder is staying busy with several projects.
Construction is about to begin on the city’s wastewater improvement project. All permits and contracts have been settled and construction will get underway any time after May 1. Once the initial project is complete, upgrades to the plant and lagoons along with repair work on manholes and collection lines will be scheduled. The entire project is expected to be completed by December.
Further regarding waste and water flow, the city would like to remind residents that backflow assembly and period water testing are required for all buried sprinkler systems. The city also would like to remind residents to be aware of what they flush beyond toilet paper and waste. Not all objects labeled as flushable are actually safe to flush without causing issues in the sewer system. Kitchen waist like oil and grease can especially cause issues with buildup.
Going from waste to beautification, volunteers will be hanging FFA grown flower baskets on light poles around 2nd street on May 25. Those that would like to volunteer to help maintain the baskets over the summer can contact city hall or the mayor at 541-975-0422.
Lastly, the library has several small updates. The summer reading program will begin June 12 and run through august 4. As listed in the North Powder newsletter, “the theme is ‘Find Your Voice’. We’ll have 8 weeks of fun reading, hands-on learning, activities and games. Please be on the lookout for more information. You may sign your child up to participate at any time.”
The city-wide Yard Sale is scheduled for June 3. Residents not participating are asked to donate items to the library instead. Finally, the library will be closed for Memorial Day on May 29. Anything due back by that date is asked to be turned in by May 27.
