LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) The latest edition of the NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll was released Wednesday by the national office. Eastern Oregon moved up one spot nationally to No. 24.

Since the last ranking, EOU has played two conference series for eight total games, going 4-4 in those games. The first series the Mountaineers matched up with nationally ranked, No. 1 Oregon Tech. The Hustlin’ Owls took all four games of the series over the Mounties. Eastern bounced back the next weekend, sweeping Northwest University to improve to 24-14 overall in the 2023 season and a 14-9 Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Poll Methodology

  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Continental Athletic Conference (Independents).
  • The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) is removed and the team’s ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appear on.
  • Teams that receive only one point on the ballot are not considered “receiving votes”
  • The frequency of the polls is bi-weekly. This policy was approved by the National Administrative Council (NAC) prior to the 2016-17 academic season. This change allows raters the opportunity to consider a larger body of work between rating periods.

Eastern Oregon will be back in action Friday, Apr. 21 as they travel to Salem, Ore. to take on the Warriors of Corban University. Game one is set to start at 2 p.m.
