PENDLETON – The Westgate Apartments are getting ready for residents as the developer continues to build units stretching up to the top of the hill behind Blue Mountain Community College. Meanwhile, traffic impacts on Westgate are being addressed with the state.

Pendleton Community Development Director Tim Simons said that because Westgate is a state highway, the Oregon Department of Transportation had to actually give the complex the green light, not the city. He added that ODOT is not requiring a traffic light for the complex.

“They’re going to do a little widening on one side,” he said. “They’re going to add a couple of turning pockets for right and left turns.”

Simons said the developer is hoping to have a few buildings ready for occupancy in the next month. He said it would probably be another year before the project is complete and the buildings at the top of the hill are ready to be rented.
