EOU’S Hoskins and Mansfield Earn CCC Athlete of the Week Honors

LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) The Cascade Collegiate Conference announced this week’s Athlete of the Week Awards presented by Rize Laboratories on Monday afternoon. Eastern Oregon had two athletes earn the honor as Kaylie Hoskins was named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season and Judson Mansfield was named the Field Athlete of the Week for men’s track and field.
 
SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Kaylie Hoskins
 
Hoskins had three strong outings this week, leading the Mountaineers in the circle for all three of the team’s victories. Hoskins posted three complete game shutouts including a 10 inning battle against the College of Idaho where she allowed just three hits while adding 17 strikeouts. Hoskins followed her 10-inning shutout with back to back shutout performances against Carroll College totaling 24 strikeouts in two games against the Saints.
 
“Kaylie was on her A game this week,” Head Coach Nicole Christian said. “She faced a very tough C of I and Carroll lineup and was able to execute and be successful.”
 
Hoskins and the Mountaineers will return to action Friday at 2 p.m. when they play the first game of a four-game series against Oregon Tech on the road.
 
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (FIELD) – Judson Mansfield
 
Mansfield started off the outdoor season strong with his first performance in the decathlon this weekend at the Pacific University Multi Meet. The junior finished sixth overall with a score of 5,462 points. The Washougal, Wash. native finished in the top five of four separate events leading the Mounties with the highest finish on the weekend.
 
“Judson works hard, and it is nice to see him rewarded for his efforts,” Head Coach Ben Welch said.
 
EOU Track and Field returns to action on Friday at the Whitworth Peace Meet hosted in Spokane, Wash.
