GUHS and the Every Day Matters attendance program

JOHN DAY – Grant Union Jr./Sr. High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Andy Lusco was on KJDY’s Coffee Time explaining the Every Day Matters program to promote good attendance. Mr. Lusco said schools all across the state are seeing lower-than-normal attendance, and they’re doing what they can to address that:
“Start putting some increased efforts into culture and climate to encourage kids to be at school and make school a place that kids want to be. We can target some money there, when you kind of identify what motivates teenagers and what they like.
We have a few initiatives that we’re working on this fourth quarter that kids have been pretty excited about.”
Mr. Lusco mentioned a couple of challenges for both students and teachers that would award them for good attendance. There will also be an assembly and field day at the end of the school year.
