LA GRANDE – Just because technology advances it doesn’t mean tried and true methods of community education lose their place, quite the opposite in fact. The Union County 4-H Robotics club is hosting an open house expo to introduce local youth to robotics and engineering, complete with a live demonstration.

Robotics and technology in Union County 4-H isn’t a completely new concept. Previous 4-H robotics clubs, which have since been consolidated into the current club, taught kids to fly RC aircraft and even had a group of five tinkering with a two-cycle engine. 4-H representative and robotics enthusiast Lou Gerber said, “Robotics goes in a lot of different directions. We’re just trying to give them a ground floor.” The new club is led by six veteran members of the old clubs, who will teach newer, younger members about the robotics field and help provide a fun experience for all involved.

For those parents and kids interested in robotics, the club will be hosting an open house robotics expo this evening to provide an introduction to the 4-H robotics project. Included in the expo will be an actual robot demonstrated by one of the club members. The open house is being hosted in the Trinity Baptist Church Fellowship room, 2705 Gekeler Lane, La Grande, and will last from 5:30 to 6:30. The club will begin a regular schedule in March.
