ATHENA – The Weston-McEwen High School’s renowned Pipes and Drums returns to present a halftime show (tomorrow) Friday evening in the gym. The show, which is built around “Amazing Grace,” is a salute to first responders.
The performance at halftime of the boys varsity basketball game against Irrigon continues a tradition that began in 1950. It showcases talented students and celebrates the local ties to Scottish heritage. The show features bagpipers, highland dancers, and a new section of pipers.
The pipes and drums program is led by band director Rob McIntyre. He said that 30 students will be performing.
“We are excited to have our current students perform our iconic halftime show again,” Vice Principal Morgan Rauch said. “This legacy connects our students to each of the generations over the past 70 years.”
The game begins at 7:30 p.m. It is preceded by junior varsity boys and girls games and the varsity girls game.
