SALEM – Oregon State Senator Bill Hansell (R-Athena) is a long-serving member of the legislature’s Joint Ways and Means Committee, which sets the budget for the coming biennium in the 2023 session. This year, he’s been given a seat on a powerful subcommittee serving ways and means.
Hansell will serve on the Capital Construction Subcommittee. He said that is an extremely important position.
“All of the lottery projects, lottery-funded projects, go through that committee,” he said. “It’s kind of the building committee, if you will.”
Hansell anticipates a lot of hard work throughout the session, right down to the wire, with this new seat.
“It’s one of the last committees that’s working until the very end,” he said.
Projects like the remodel at the Umatilla County Jail go before the subcommittee. This year it’s anticipated the Round-Up City Development Corporation will ask for state funding to help it establish a youth sports complex.
