PENDLETON – The state of Oregon is requiring cities to create a complete inventory of water and sewer pipes and connectors including those on private land. Pendleton Public Works Director Bob Patterson said he hopes the residents can help, because there is no funding from the state to pay for such an inventory.
The city is putting out a request for help that will go out with the February water bills asking people what their pipes are made of as part of the state’s desire to see how serious the lead and copper piping problems are.
“We have no information in that regard,” Patterson said of the pipes on private lands. “If they check that they don’t know, that will give us information that we can come out and work with them.”
Patterson said that a quick call to a plumber the landowners has hired could answer the question. The material could also be determined based on the time the building was constructed.
