ENTERPRISE – It’s important to remember the constant effort that is required to monitor Oregon’s roadways for impaired drivers and the amount of potentially fatal incidents that are averted thanks to the work of law enforcement. Back in December, Enterprise Police Chief Keven McQuead received the following message from Impaired Driving Program Manager for ODOT, Ryan Stone:
“Good afternoon Chief McQuead,
I am the Impaired Driving Program Manager for the ODOT Transportation Safety Office, and part of my role is to review DUII enforcement grant claims and their supporting documentation prior to agency reimbursement. Recently, I reviewed reimbursement claims from around the state, and the efforts of your officers, George Kohlepp and Jacob Curtis, stood out among the others. During the months of July and August, Officers Kohlepp and Curtis combined for eight DUII arrests, including an impressive six arrests for DUII – Drugs. Given the diminutive geographical area and total population served by your agency, these numbers are beyond impressive, and they demonstrate that your officers are dedicated to identifying threats to the motoring public within a community where a fatal crash would be likely to reverberate through a substantial number of households. Simply put, your officers have outperformed those in many high-population areas we know to be rife with impaired drivers. Having met Officer Curtis at DRE School this year, and again when I visited with transportation safety partners in Eastern Oregon, I have been very impressed by his drive and his talent for impaired driving investigations. I have no doubt his contributions to the DRE program locally, regionally, and around the state will be felt and appreciated in the coming years.
