WALLOWA – (Information from the Oregon Department of Transportation) In a recent press release, the Oregon Department of Transportation announced that $87,000 in funding will be dispatched to programs and organizations across Oregon to improve both public transportation and access to non-motorized transport as part of the Micro Grants Program. This is a sub-project of the larger Innovative Mobility Program meant to easily fun smaller projects on a rolling basis without deadlines and with ease of application. In the release, ODOT Stated:
“ODOT’s new Innovative Mobility Program will be sending more than $87,000 out the door in the next few weeks for helmets and locks, transit passes, adaptive bikes and much more. The Innovative Mobility Program has a special focus on social equity and helping members of historically excluded groups get where they need to go more quickly, cheaply and safely. The funds are aimed at improving safety and access for those who walk and roll, while also making it easier to use other transportation modes besides driving alone.”
In Eastern Oregon, the Wallowa Mountains Bike Club will receive $5,000 for “Bike helmets and bike refurbishing for children from low‐income and rural homes” and the Wallowa School District will receive $4,858 for “bike racks and locks” for their students.
