LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) Eastern Oregon Volleyball’s Cambree Scott was officially named the NAIA Academic All-American Team Member of the Year Wednesday morning by College Sports Communicators (CSC). Scott adds the award after an incredible season to end her career in which she already earned All-Conference and All-American honors. Also earning honors was sophomore libero, Hailey Arritola, who earned Academic All-District.
“I feel incredibly honored to win this award,” Scott said. “Our program emphasizes academics over athletics and to receive this honor shows the importance of that.”
The award highlights one outstanding individual in each division of collegiate volleyball including all three NCAA divisions and the NAIA. The winner of the award for each division was selected based on voting by members of the College Sports Communicators organization formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Scott led the way for an NAIA Academic All-American team that included six student-athletes with 4.0 GPAs and five repeat honorees (Scott landed in both categories). The list included eight first team honorees and six second team honorees.
For Scott, the award comes thanks to discipline and a focused effort in the classroom as well as on the court.
“Academics are incredibly important. I chose to play at EOU not only because I enjoyed the volleyball program, but because I knew it would be a great school to further my education,” Scott said.
Making the list this year for the third time, this is Scott’s second straight First Team Academic All-American honor and her first time being named as the Team Member of the Year. In 2022 she became a four-time All-CCC honoree, was named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team in the NAIA Championships, became a three-time AVCA All-NAIA Northwest Region selection, and earned her third NAIA All-American honor (2x Second Team, 1x First Team). Those accolades come after a season that saw Scott lead the nation in blocks averaging 1.45 per set and 180 total. Offensively, Scott finished the year hitting .255 averaging 2.25 kills per set.
“I want to congratulate her on an amazing honor and award,” Head Coach Kaki McLean Morehead said. “It couldn’t go to a better player and person.”
Also earning College Sports Communicators honors was sophomore Hailey Arritola. The Mountaineers’ libero earned Academic All-District honors as a top performer in the Northwest on the court and in the classroom. Arritola, a Second Team All-CCC honoree, averaged 4.68 digs per set and finished the year with a .950 receiving percentage. When all was said and done Arritola totaled 576 digs on the year, more than 200 more than any other Mountie in 2022.
