Vehicle recovered in pursuit Sunday

News release from Pendleton Police Chief Chuck Byram:

December 17, 2022 at 12:00p.m., a Pendleton resident reported that theft of his white 2001 Ford F250 from the drive way of his residence by unknown suspect(s). A Pendleton Police Department patrol officer responded to the residence of the victim and took the theft report.

December 18, 2022 at 10:31 a.m., the case officer observed the stolen truck being operated in the area of the SE Court Avenue Circle K. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle and occupants, however the driver fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was last observed eastbound heading out of the city limits.

An officer with the Umatilla Tribal Police Department located the vehicle on Goad Road and the pursuit of the vehicle ensued back into the city limits. The suspect driver and the passenger abandoned the vehicle in the area of the 800 block of SE 6th Street. The female passenger and her dog were detained in the area, but the male suspect evaded capture.

The victim was able to respond and recover his vehicle. This case is still being actively investigated. From beginning to end, the vehicle pursuit lasted about 10-minutes. No injuries were sustained by any of those involved or innocent bystanders in the area.
