KENNEWICK – The Kennewick Fire Department is installing smoke alarms at the Tri-Cities RV Park, 7322 West Bonnie Avenue tomorrow (Saturday) starting at 11 a.m. KFD is working with the American Red Cross, Kennewick Firefighters Local 1296, and other community partners to host a Sound the Alarm Day of Action
Chief Chad Michael said KFD has responded to three separate fire incidents at this location. A fire on Nov. 12, tragically took the life of an 8-year-old girl and resulted in injuring her 14-year-old brother who is still receiving treatment at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
For the past three years, KFD has worked with numerous community partners to conduct smoke alarm installation days in at-risk neighborhoods. On May 16, 176 smoke alarms were installed at the Sun City Mobile Home Park located at 5007 West Clearwater Avenue, benefiting 274 people.
The American Red Cross says that Sound the Alarm campaigns across the country have saved 1,200 lives, half of whom were children under the age of 18.
