HERMISTON – The Hermiston School District had a hand in Weston-McEwen High School’s big football victory this past weekend. HSD opened up Kennison Field last week so the TigerScots could get accustomed to artificial turf before their semifinal game.
WMHS Head Coach Kenzie Hansell is a Hermiston High School graduate, and he was pleased to return to his roots as Weston-McEwen worked on upping its game. Hermiston Assistant Superintendent Jake Bacon said the district is happy it could help.
“We’re pretty fortunate to have a community that supported the facilities that we have,” Bacon said. “Our job is to make sure that those facilities are being used, so anything we can do to help support that, we’re ready to do it.”
Weston-McEwen, seeded seventh, came from behind to defeat three-seed Colton 31 to 30 in the semifinal. They advance to the state championship this coming Saturday against top-seed Oakland.
