OREGON – (Release from the Oregon Department of Transportation) We still find drivers crossing our passes and ignoring Oregon chain law. Drivers that ignore chain law requirements too frequently find themselves getting into collisions or slide-outs and blocking lanes. When lanes get blocked on our passes, we have to close the roadway in order to get emergency workers and tow trucks to the scene. Logistically, this is much more difficult to do on a mountain pass, and it can take hours.
The estimated cost of delays caused by trucks failing to follow Oregon chain laws is over $8 million a year – to the motor carrier industry and other highway users. When a truck loses traction, it can not only delay its delivery but also delay everyone else on the road behind a stuck truck.
This winter we’re working with Oregon State Police, our partners in snow, to enforce chain requirements during winter storms and inclement weather on (roadway location). Save your money for ugly holiday sweaters, because if you don’t chain up – you could end up paying a hefty fine.
Need a reminder on Oregon’s chain requirements? We’ve got all the details on our TripCheck.com Winter Travel tab. You’ll find info on chain law, snow zones, traction tires and chain placement based on your vehicle and trailer configurations.
