Stranded Hunters Spur Reminder to be Prepared for Conditions when Recreating Outdoors

BAKER COUNTY – The Baker County Sheriff’s Office is reminding citizens to be prepared for winter when recreating outdoors.   

According to BCSO, on the morning of November 7, 2022, “Baker County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a call from hunters stranded on Fish Lake Road. They came to Baker County last week for an elk hunt in the Halfway area. While hunting, a significant snowstorm moved in. The hunters packed up their camp but quickly realized their vehicle wasn’t going anywhere. They spent an entire day digging out the truck to no avail.

After receiving the 911 call, Sheriff Ash reached out to Josiah Schmoe with Halfway Towing & Repair. Josiah made the trip to Fish Lake Road and successfully towed the hunters out.”

This is a great reminder of the importance of being prepared when recreating in the outdoors. Tell family members of your location, bring extra food/water supplies and clothing, and consider carrying a satellite emergency beacon.
