MISSION – The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation Department of Natural Resources is 40 years old. An open house to show the public what’s been accomplished over those four decades is planned for tomorrow (Tuesday) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Nixyaawii Governance Center.
CTUIR Communications Director Kaeleen McGuire said everyone is welcome to attend the open house. DNR will talk about its many efforts including first foods management, restoration efforts, and Tribal member treaty access.
DNR staff will be on hand to meet the public and McGuire said there will also be food.
“Some folks are working on some really fun appetizers that are related to first foods,” she said. There could be perhaps some salmon patties and other really cool new takes on our first foods.”
DNR Director Eric Quaempts said the development of the department in 1982 was an important milestone in the history of Tribal governance.
“We hope people will come and help acknowledge and honor the people and the work that came before us, learn about our current challenges and work efforts, and share ideas to help inform future work,” he said.
