GRANT COUNTY – Fire season ended this week on local and state fire jurisdictions within Grant County. Open burning is now permitted on lands protected by ODF and our municipal and rural fire districts. Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush has a bit of advice for folks who are planning to get their burning done:
“A wise person once told me, ‘Just because it’s legal, doesn’t necessarily make it a good idea.’ You’ve gotta look at the overall conditions and use some common sense.
You’re responsible for the fires that you start. Just make sure that you have plenty of defensible space around the area that you’re burning so that you can minimize the chances of something getting away from you.”
Check with your local city hall and rural fire district to inquire about specific burn barrel or open burning permits required within that jurisdiction.
