October Named Cyber Security Awareness Month for Oregon

STATE OF OREGON – (Release from the Oregon State Governor’s Office) October is recognized as Cybersecurity Awareness Month in Oregon and across the nation. Prompted by Governor Brown’s proclamation, Oregon Enterprise Information Services has kicked off a month-long campaign to increase education about online threats. As part of this important month, all Oregonians are encouraged to learn about cybersecurity and to put that knowledge into practice in their homes, schools, workplaces and businesses.
The STOP. THINK. CONNECT. ™ campaign serves as the national cybersecurity public awareness campaign, implemented through a coalition of government organizations, private companies, nonprofits, and academic institutions working together to increase the public’s understanding of cyber threats and empowering Americans to be safer and more secure online. All Oregonians are encouraged to visit the campaign website to learn more and take proactive steps to increase their online safety.
“Cybersecurity is both an individual and a shared responsibility. Education and awareness are key, especially for our vulnerable populations,” stated Terrence Woods, State Chief Information Officer.
Oregon Enterprise Information Services has established an Oregon “Whole of Government Community” Cyber Disruption Response and Recovery – Voluntary Resource Guide. This plan brings the governing entities within Oregon together for an inclusive cybersecurity ecosystem. The Whole of Government Community collaboration provides the greatest defense, response and rapid recovery against cyber disruption.
Woods stated, “The Cyber Disruption Response and Recovery – Voluntary Resource Guide is an example of Oregon Enterprise Information Services’ efforts toward sharing the responsibility for cybersecurity.”
Governor Brown’s proclamation affirms that Oregon state government plays a vital role in identifying, protecting its residents from, and responding to cybersecurity threats that may have significant impact to our individual and collective safety and privacy.
