Drivers need to plan for added travel time as three road construction projects kick into high gear today (Monday) in the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla County.
In Pasco, crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation will inspect the overpass this week on US 395 near Lewis Street. WSDOT will close a lane on southbound US 395 as well as the southbound on-ramp at Lewis Street between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. today (Monday) and tomorrow. Then on Wednesday and Thursday, between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., crews will close a lane on northbound US 395 and the northbound on-ramp to Columbia Drive.
In downtown Walla Walla, Third Avenue between Rose Street and Oak Street, and Cherry Street between Second Avenue and Fourth Avenue, will be closed for paving work from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. today (Monday) through Thursday. During the closure, the mailbox and payment drop boxes in front of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers building will not be accessible by vehicles. However, the public will still be able to access them via the sidewalk on the west side of Third Avenue. City utility payments also may be dropped off in person at Walla Walla City Hall, 15 N. Third Ave.
In Walla Walla County, WSDOT and contractor crews will close Cummins Road in Touchet to complete road work starting today (Monday). This work will include placing embankment, paving, pouring bridge deck traffic barrier, placing guardrail and paint striping. The road closure will be in place until mid-October. Drivers should prepare for reduced speed limits around the construction zone. A detour will be in place throughout the duration of the closure.
