UMATILLA COUNTY – Umatilla County Search and Rescue is getting a wheeled rescue litter. Board of Commissioners Chairman John Shafer said the litter would have been a big help when SAR responded to an ATV crash recently.
“A six-person team hand carried the person along a narrow ATV trail for over a half a mile before they could transfer to patient to a motorized vehicle,” he said.
The litter will enable team members to get injured people to medical attention quicker. It’s also not a complicated piece of equipment to use.
“It looks like a unicycle but without the pedals and on top of it you can put a gurney,” Shafer said. The board has approved the purchase of the litter and accessories from Cascade Rescue of Sandpoint, Idaho for $5,951.
