UMATILLA COUNTY – The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved the city of Umatilla annexing Lind Road and county-owned property into the city limits which paves the way for the Practical Assistance through Transitional Housing project.
“A portion of the property currently is leased for aggregate stockpiling with the north two acres to be utilized for the PATH Project,” Chairman John Shafer said.
The facility to be built on the property would allow for stays of overnight and longer and there would also be support services available. The project is being funded through the Oregon Department of Administrative Services.
The city of Umatilla has been the lead on the project, but its intent has always been to help the homeless from Hermiston, Echo, and Stanfield as well. It is envisioned as a main building offering support services, a dozen sleeping huts with room for one or two people, showers, meal facilities, and indoor and outdoor common areas.
