PILOT ROCK – A plane went down in a field south of Alkali Canyon and north of Highway 74 near Pilot Rock this morning. First responders reported from the scene that the three people on the plane suffered bumps and bruises, but were fine.
The original report came into the Umatilla County Emergency Dispatch Center from the Federal Aviation Administration. They stated they had received a report of a plane with engine problems, had declared an emergency, and then the plane was lost on radar.
Paramedics assessed the injuries when they arrived in the field where the plane was located. UCSO states that a deputy was enroute to the scene when he was called off by the FAA. The sheriff’s office was notified that the FAA had been in contact with the National Transportation Safety Board and the pilot and no further assistance was needed.
The FAA did not provide the sheriff’s office with any information about the type of plane involved, nor about the origin or destination of the flight. The NTSB is investigating and we have reached out to their public information office for more information.
