MILTON-FREEWATER – The city of Milton-Freewater is in the middle of a $1.5 million project to improve Powell Road. City Manager Linda Hall said a number of people are moving into that area, and the road needed improvement.
“It’s maybe 14 feet wide with no shoulder and no sidewalk,” she said. “It has a bridge that goes over a charming little canal that I’m pretty sure was built to horse-and-buggy standard.”
The reconstruction project, which began in June, should be done this fall.
“We are rebuilding the bridge and then there will be a nice walking sidewalk for people there,” she said. “One thing that COVID has taught us is that we all want to be outside and getting plenty of exercise when we can.”
