JOHN DAY – The numbers are in from the Grant County Youth Livestock Auction held at the fair last Saturday. Shannon Springer, Youth Livestock Auction Committee Treasurer, said, “…there were four sets of bleachers and probably more than a hundred chairs set up and still packed standing room only.”
Looking at the top prices in each species, Rainey Anderson got $17/lb. for her steer from Chester’s Market. In swine, Kanin Koppel had the top hog that sold for $28/lb. to Bill Gander. Summer Berry sold the most expensive sheep at $15/lb. to Darren Kimball, LLC and BCH Cattle LLC. The top goat was Bryant Baker’s project and sold to Tim and Laura Brown and Country Preferred Realtors for $29/lb. Morgan Wyllie had the top chicken, which sold to Mike Moore for $700. In turkeys, the most valued bird was raised by Sydnie Brandon and sold for $1,400 to the Grant County Health Department.
Overall, $499,476.75 was generated at the auction, going back to the youth of Grant County.
