Commissioners to consider buying new restraint systems

UMATILLA COUNTY – The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners meets this morning at 9 a.m. in Room 130 of the Umatilla County Courthouse in Pendleton. One of the items on the agenda is a request to purchase restraint devices by the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office.
UCSO is asking for four units and accompanying ankle restraints to be placed in patrol vehicles. The WRAP, which is made by Safe Restraints, Inc., is considered a safe and effective way to restrain combative individuals who are being transported to jail, according to the sheriff’s request. The total cost would be $7,602.37 and UCSO said there is money in its budget to cover that cost.
The board will also consider a request from Harris Park for a new vault toilet for the camping area below the shop. The cost of the unit, with delivery included, is $30,355.20 on a state contract. At least $14,000 of that would be funded by a grant. Harris Park officials plan to file for other grants, but report they have the money available in the budget if they aren’t successful. If the toilet is ordered in the near future, it would be delivered in time for the 2023 camping season.
