Oregon’s In-State Meat Inspection Program Approved

EASTERN OREGON – In a press release on July 28, The U.S. Department of agriculture announced the U.S. approval for Oregon’s new in-state meat inspection program permissions. This announcement came following several months of discussion between the Oregon state senators and USDA over reviewing the state’s meat inspection policy.
As stated in the press release “The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and the state of Oregon have finalized a cooperative agreement, under which the state inspection program may inspect meat products produced for shipment within the state. Under the cooperative agreement, the state inspection program must develop, administer, and enforce requirements ‘at least equal to’ those imposed under the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA).”
