HERMISTON – Hermiston School Superintendent Tricia Mooney says the two new elementary buildings in the district will be ready to welcome students on time, even though some finish work might still need to be done.
“We are going to have kids in those beautiful new buildings,” she said. “There are going to be brand new things that are still getting finished potentially. What a neat opportunity for our kids to be in a brand new building.”
The elementary school projects are winding down, but the bond money hasn’t all been spent. Next up is a classroom annex at Hermiston High School. It will be on the north side of the main building between the baseball and new softball fields.
“Just last week, they started moving some dirt back there to get that project going, so that is underway,” Mooney said.
She also said there are some district-wide safety and security upgrades that will be funded by the school bond.
“In particular right now, we’re looking at Highland Hills Elementary and traffic flow,” she said. “We’ll start those projects next summer. They are still in the design phase.”
