Vehicle and 2 bodies found; investigation underway

GRANT COUNTY – UPDATE: (News Release from Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley)

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has preliminarily identified the deceased individuals that were located in southern Grant County near the 1710 road, northwest of Drewsey Oregon. 

Dawna Faye Roe, 51 and her daughter Gabrielle Michelle Roe, 16 of Caldwell Idaho, who were reported missing on July 6th, were located in Dawna Roe’s 2004 Toyota van. 

The cause of death is still under investigation, but no other individuals are being sought at this time.

On the early afternoon hours of July 7th near 1:00 pm, Grant County Deputies and Harney County Deputies responded to a remote location on public land northwest of Drewsey to a report of a van with a deceased individual in it. 

Silvies Ranch employees reportedly located the vehicle while working in the area and reported it to the Harney County Dispatch. It was discovered the van was located just inside Grant County on the Harney/Grant line. 

Law Enforcement was led into the area by the ranch hands, and once an initial investigation occurred, and a second body was located, the scene was secured. 

The Major Crimes Team was activated with Troopers and Detectives along with Oregon State Police Forensic personnel responding to the scene. 

Deputies, State Police, the Medical Examiner and Forest Service Law Enforcement remained on scene throughout the night. 

There is no ongoing threat to the public in the area, and personnel departed the scene after 9:00 am. 

Names are being withheld pending notification to family.
