Nominations being accepted for Summer Beautification Awards

LA GRANDE – Aesthetics and resourcefulness go into urban planning as much as symmetry and efficiency, that’s why the City of La Grande is recognizing the efforts of the public to keep their homes and business looking attractive with the Summer Beautification Awards.

Part of the 2004 Community Forest and Landscape Beautification Awards Program under the Community Landscape and Forestry Commission, The La Grande Summer Beautification awards are meant to encourage smart landscaping practices and visually pleasing designs for the public.

According to the official program guidelines, residential participants should focus on integrating diverse colors, seasonal elements, good application of hardscape, conservative use of resources and promotion of wildlife habitat and food production. Residential owners that “have overcome special circumstances” will also be considered. Commercial participants should focus on using plants to implement diverse seasonal colors and textures in addition to creative use of landscaping in their available space.

Awards include “a letter of congratulations from the Community Landscape and Forestry Commission, a certificate signed by the Mayor and a placard to display in their yard for two months.” The selection committee is comprised of both Urban Forestry and Landscape and Forestry Commission staff along with other City of La Grande Employees.
