HERMISTON – The eighth home constructed by the Columbia Basin Student Homebuilders Program is completed. The public can tour Fieldstone No. 8 at an open house from 1-6 p.m. Tuesday.
The innovative program sees high school students from Hermiston, Stanfield, and Umatilla designing, constructing, and landscaping the homes. They are taught by community business partners. The newest home is at 852 SW Angus Court in Hermiston.
The 2,330 square foot home is energy efficient. It has three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a bonus room upstairs. The three-car garage features one 10-foot RV/boat bay door. Other features include vaulted ceilings in the great room and master bedroom, a central vacuum system, a security system, high-speed fiber optics, and a house-wide water softener system.
The energy efficiencies are above-code standards with Energy Trust of Oregon. They include enhanced insulation; sealed duct work; energy-efficient windows, heating, cooling, ventilation, lights, appliances; and envelope tightness measures.
The yard is fully landscaped and fenced. It is also built to be ready if one wants to install a hot tub, solar power, or an electric car charger. The house is for sale. Profits from the sale help fund the continuation of the home builders program.
