OLYMPIA – Starting July 1, Washingtonians planning to buy a new car or motorcycle will pay more for an original license plate. Original license plates are those issued upon initial registration. Fees are per plate.
Original plates increase from $10 to $50. Replacement plates increase from $10 to $30.
Original motorcycle plates increase from $4 to $20 and replacement motorcycle plates increase from $4 to $12.
The new fee increases are directed by the Washington Legislature to help fund Move Ahead Washington, the nearly $17 billion transportation package signed into law earlier this year. Republicans were sharply critical of the plan which was approved by the Democrat majority.
