MILTON-FREEWATER – Starting July 1, residential and commercial solid waste collection rates are going up in the city of Milton-Freewater. The city council recently voted to raise rates for the city-owned service.
“All rates are going up 10 percent which will cost the regular residential garbage customer $1.47 more each month,” City Manager Linda Hall said.
The new monthly rate for each 96-gallon container to be picked up per week will be $16.12.
The city will also start charging for commercial cardboard pickup for recycling.
“If the businesses want to continue to have that service, they need to begin paying for it at a minimum of $100 per month for one cubic yard average picked up weekly,” Hall said. “Rates increase with larger loads and more frequent pickups.”
Hall said the rates have not been raised in 8 years.
