UNION COUNTY – 12-year-old Jayden Hansen of Union County is doing great things to help those in her community. Since she was about six weeks only Jayden has been attending the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show (EOLS) and a couple of years ago Jayden began showing pigs at EOLS. According to her grandmother, Jayden is a huge animal lover with dreams of being a veterinarian.
This past weekend, during the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show, Jayden pledged to donate the proceeds from her pig to the family of Jeremy Richards. Richards was killed in a vehicle crash recently.
Add-ons are still coming in for the auction, but as of the end of the auction on Saturday, Jayden had brought in $2,250 from her pig. With add-ons, as of June 15, Jayden has raised just over $3,000.
In May, for her 12th birthday, instead of gifts for herself, Jayden had friends bring gifts of animal items that could be donated to the Blue Mountain Animal Shelter in La Grande.
This is just another great example of kids in our community doing great things.
