WALLA WALLA – Two Walla Walla police officers were injured Tuesday afternoon after contacting a man who was acting suspicious while pushing a motorcycle on the 500 block of East Pine Street. One officer suffered a broken hand, and the other was spit on by the suspect. As for the suspect, Jacob Romero, 29, of Walla Walla, police reports he made his first appearance Wednesday morning and was released from jail without bail.
During initial contact with the Romero, police said he became aggressive while an officer began running the motorcycle’s license place to see if it was possibly stolen. The officer called for additional units to respond.
When the officer advised Romero that he was under arrest for attempting to intimidate an officer while performing their duty, Romero allegedly rushed and pushed the officer. Romero then retreated into a residence refusing to comply with the officer.
Additional officers arrived and Romero was convinced to come outside the residence but would not comply. At one point, officers were able to get close enough to grab Romero to place him under arrest, which caused him to start fighting with police, which resulted in injuries to the two officers.
Romero faces the following charges: intimidating a public servant, third-degree assault, resisting arrest, and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
