PENDLETON – Pendleton Parks and Recreation Director Liam Hughes says the dramatically renovated Til Taylor Park is 95 percent complete. The playground and splash pad are in full operation. There is a snag with the dog park, though.
“We’re just waiting for the grass to grow and obviously the grass does its own thing on its own timeline,” he said. “If we get out there too early, we’re going to have a mud bowl. Then, in that big storm last week, we had a 12-inch limb come down clean through our new fence.”
Hughes said the fence should be repaired soon and the dog park will open in the near future.
“The only other things we’ve got left are a few cosmetic upgrades,” he said. “We’ve got some plaques we need to install and things like that.”
Hughes said that he’s surprised at the number of children turning out to play on the splash pad in spite of the cooler than normal weather. The new feature at Til Taylor has also put him in touch with his inner child.
“I’ve been under that big dunking bucket myself, and it is very refreshing,” he said.
