PENDLETON – Preliminary date from the National Weather Service in Pendleton shows that the month of May was cooler and wetter than normal.
Pendleton measured 3.06 inches, which was above average, but not a record.
“It was the fourth wettest May in Pendleton,” Meteorologist Marc Austin said. “The wettest May was actually back in 1906 at 3.36 inches.”
Walla Walla measured 3.66 inches of precipitation, which is 1.59 inches above normal. In Hermiston the precipitation was 1.85 inches, which is 1.02 inches above normal.
As for temperatures, Pendleton’s average was 55.2 degrees, which is 2.8 degrees below normal. In Hermiston, the average was 56.7 degrees, which is 4.5 degrees colder. Meanwhile, in Walla Walla the average was 54.5, which is a chilly 5.9 degrees below normal. The Climate Prediction Center forecasts that June will follow in May’s footsteps – with temperatures below normal and precipitation above normal.
