Outdoor activities “for the health of it” for students

BAKER COUNTY – (Release from Anthony Lakes) Anthony Lakes Outdoor Recreation Association is dedicated to providing outdoor recreation opportunities to our local youth. The success of the Ski For the Health of It program has inspired other “for the health of its” providing more year round opportunities for area youth. Together with the Baker School District, the Leo Adler Foundation, the Baker County YMCA and Community Bank, ALORA continues to encourage active and healthful local youth.

  • Golf for the Health of It:  Golf for the Health of It is in full swing (pun intended). This eight-week, 12-day program is available to 80, Baker School District 4th to 8th graders. Quail Ridge Golf Management, LLC., the Baker School District and Brooks Golf Management, LLC., have joined forces to provide a fun and organized learning environment that teaches the lifelong activity of golf and promotes heathy living. 
  • Kids Golf Camp (Grades K-3): In partnership with the Baker County YMCA and the Baker School District, Quail Ridge will host an introductory youth golf camp open to the first 50, Kindergarten to 3rd grade students. 
    • Thursdays, June 16 & 21, July 7 & 14
    • 11am to 12:3pm
    • $25 for YMCA members, $35 for non members
  • 5th/6th Grade Mondays – Golf edition: Quail Ridge Golf Course is now offering 5th & 6th Grade Mondays! Open to any 5th & 6th grader (from anywhere), this program offers free golf and use of golf clubs and the accompanying adult plays a round for just $15!   • Bike for the Health of It: In partnership with the Baker School District and the Trailhead Baker City, the Bike for the Health of It program is offering three sessions this summer. This free program offers a progression of bike riding and maintenance skills, traffic safety and awareness, and encourages getting outside. Bikes and helmets are available to students who need them at no charge.
    • Pre Registration is highly encouraged and can be done by contacting Heidi Stokes or Angela Lattin at the Baker School District or call the district office at 541-524-2260.
      • June 15th: Central Park, Baker City, 6-7pm
      • July 20th: BELC, Baker City, 6-7pm
      • August 6th: Union Creek Day Use area, Phillips Reservoir, 9am to noon, transportation included
