PENDLETON – The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the area from 5 p.m. today (Saturday) through 3 p.m. tomorrow. The watch encompasses the foothills of the Blue Mountains in northeastern Oregon and southeastern Washington. It includes the cities of Pendleton, Pilot Rock, Athena, Walla Walla, Waitsburg, and Dayton.
A strong storm system will move across the area tonight and Sunday bringing moderate to heavy rainfall. Forecasters caution that this will cause rises on creeks and streams with some flooding possible. Excessive runoff could result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.
People are advised to monitor later forecasts and be alert for the possible issuance of flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action if flooding develops.
