Pasco, Walla Walla airports earn grants

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) announced this week the Tri-Cities Airport and Walla Walla Regional Airport have been awarded more than $7.8 million in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration. The airport improvement program grants will help fund renovations for the airports in Franklin and Walla Walla counties.
The Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco will receive $7.4 million to construct a 3,500-foot taxiway providing access to aircraft hangars. This grant funds the final phase, which consists of construction. Plus, the airport will receive an additional $70,000 to conduct a new pavement management study.
The Walla Walla Regional Airport will receive $322,000 to acquire a new snow removal plow and deicing distributor equipment, enhancing the airport’s ability to clear the airfield during adverse weather conditions.
The FAA awarded more than $608 million in airport improvement program grants to airports across the country this week. Washington state airports received 29 grants totaling $38.68 million dollars, the second-highest allocation to any one state.
