PENDLETON – The 13-member Blue Mountain Community College Budget Committee has its second meeting at 5 p.m. today. BMCC President Mark Browning said that another meeting could be held Thursday if needed.
The task set before the committee and the college is what to cut to deal with an anticipated $2 million shortfall. Browning is meeting with the BMCC Faculty Association which is concerned about personnel cuts.
“We’re having those conversations and we’re hopeful that something will come out of them,” Browning said “You get a lot of good minds around the table and I think it’s reasonable to expect good things to happen.”
The budget committee is comprised of the board of education members and six community members. That group approves a spending plan which then must be voted on by the board. The vote is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1.
