HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council will consider the ordinance that sets the assessment amounts for the local improvement district at the South Hermiston Industrial park at its meeting at 7 p.m. today (Monday). The assessment was the topic of a public hearing at the last regular meeting.
At that March 28 meeting, the council told staff to include a $250,000 direct cash taxpayer contribution to further drive down the amount being assessed to property owners. The proposed assessment is 40 percent less than was originally expected.
The city council held a two-day retreat in early February to review its goals and make any desired changes in priorities. The report included new information from the completion of the Hermiston 2040 process. Among the projects mentioned to help meet some goals are the extension of Gettman Road in three to four years, determine what the city’s role should be as it relates to homelessness, secure water rights for the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event center, and explore broadband and fiber options to support the city’s facilities.
The meeting will be at the Hermiston Community Center, 415 S. Highway 395. It is streamed on the city’s YouTube channel and can also be accessed via Zoom with meeting ID 841 0675 8958. The pass code is 075556.
