PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council has approved increases in water, sewer and street maintenance rates, but Mayor John Turner said they aren’t as high as they could have been. The city bases its rate increases on the construction cost index, which rose about 6.7 percent.
“Instead of adjusting upward at 6.7 percent, we made a decision to cut that in half and adjust it by about 3.3 percent,” Turner said.
Turner noted that rising rates are a fact of life. Pendleton Sanitary Service is raising its rate by 3.5 percent and Pacific Power is going up higher that six percent.
“Just like at the grocery store and the gas pump, you can expect to see these things go up,” he said. “We’ve got to do it just to run the city.”
