UNION – Recently, grant funds were obtained from Oregon Cultural Trust’s Community Development, for the Friends of the Historic Union Community Hall operating the Catherine Creek Community Center (CCCC) in Union. Those fund, made it possible to hire an electrician to replace old knob and tube wiring along with a few extra electrical upgrades.
According to information released late last week by the Catherine Creek Community Center, “to save money volunteers repurposed light fixtures in the Chapel by bronzing them before Second Mile Electric re-hung the fixtures. It is very exciting as with the new electrical update in the Chapel there will be availability to host plays and musical events in addition to Chapel services.”
Other upgrades that took place included the installation of new L.E.D. light fixtures and a new security system.
CCCC notes that, “while hard work has been completed by the electricians, it has been an eventful time with the lovely squirrels who have made our attic of the historic building their home. During the process we have learned that our knob and tube wiring has been susceptible to squirrel damage. Second Mile Electric has done a great job fixing all the areas our little friends have created havoc in. It has been a pleasure to partner with Oregon Cultural Trust and we look forward to many more years of this wonderful partnership.”
